President's Message

President’s Message - 2025 - 2026

Dear Members of the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society,

It is an incredible honor to serve as your President for the 2025–2026 year. When I attended my first SCMS meeting, I never imagined I’d someday be writing this message—yet here we are. I’m grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me, and even more grateful for the people I get to work alongside.

As I shared during my acceptance speech, this year I’ll be focusing on three priorities:

  1. Engagement – Our strength lies in our community. Whether you've been part of SCMS for years or just joined, I want every member to feel seen, valued, and connected. We’ll explore new ways to stay engaged with each other and with IMA—because SCMS is at its best when we’re learning from and supporting one another.
  2. Support – SCMS has a proud tradition of investing in the future of our profession. Through scholarships and our continued commitment to the IMA Student Leadership Conference, we make a real difference for students. This year, we’ll continue to strengthen that legacy—and find ways to amplify our impact.
  3. Sustainability – Not just environmentally, but operationally. SCMS is evolving in a world where professional organizations are changing rapidly. We’ll be taking a hard look at how we operate, how we stay relevant, and how we can preserve what makes this society so special.

Of course, none of this happens without you. I hope you’ll join us—whether in person or virtually—for this year’s Mid-Year Conference and throughout the year. And if you have ideas, feedback, or just want to reconnect, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

SCMS exists to provide a welcoming community for IMA leaders who want to continue serving, learning, and connecting. Let’s make this a year that reflects that purpose in full.

Warm regards,
Laurie Burney, CMA, CSCA, Ph.D.
President, Stuart Cameron McLeod Society (2025–2026)
