Welcome

to the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society (SCMS).

The Stuart Cameron McLeod Society (SCMS) was founded in 1934 to recognize those who served IMA and to provide an opportunity for continued friendship, fellowship, and service. Today, SCMS, also known as the Society for Continuing Member Service, continues those traditions and meets the challenges of tomorrow by funding student scholarships, supporting the Annual IMA Student Conference, and offering educational and social events for its members.

2010 Mid-Year Conference held in Charleston, SC

The annual SCMS Mid-Year conference was held October 17-20 in Charleston, South Carolina.  The conference opened with a Sunday evening reception, followed by a horse-drawn carriage “ghost tour” of historic Charleston.  On Monday morning, SCMS members and their guests were welcomed by Hon. Tommy Hartnett, U.S. Rep. (SC-1), 1981–1987.  John Brausch, IMA Chair Emeritus, gave us a look at the future of financial reporting with an IFRS Update.  IMA President Jeff Thomson presented What CFOs in the Market are Saying and brought us up-to-date on recent membership gains, global expansion, implementation of the new website, and other initiatives at IMA.  The SCMS Board of Governors met on Monday afternoon.

Tuesday morning featured a presentation and a lively discussion of Entrepreneurship with Steve Nurnberg of the Edward Jones Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Drury University.  In a new twist on the traditional Mid-Year games, teams of SCMSers fanned out through the historic district and tested their memories, knowledge of history, and powers of observation in a historical scavenger hunt on Tuesday afternoon.  The winners were announced and prizes were presented at the annual Awards Dinner that evening.   The conference concluded on Wednesday morning with a fascinating look at Walmart’s Global Transformation with Michael Lockard, Vice President of Shared Services at Walmart.
